Expanding Commercial Real Estate Development & Investment firm based in Austin, TX is seeking a Controller for a key leadership position. Reporting to the CFO, this individual will oversee a small team of Accountants, while handling a broad variety of Accounting & Finance duties. Candidates should have a proven background in accounting within the Real Estate sector, along with the desire and ability to make a positive, tangible impact within a reputable and growing company.
The Controller will be responsible for the following duties, including but not limited to:
- Oversight of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process for the management company and multiple subsidiary entities
- Preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP
- Managing the Property Accounting function for numerous commercial properties, along with construction accounting for ongoing development projects
- Overseeing third-party Fund Accounting & administration, while monitoring capital contributions and distributions, both at the fund level and in joint venture / co-investment structures
- Working closely with banks and other lenders on debt reporting and compliance items
- Communicating and interfacing effectively with key Investors, while providing ad-hoc investor reporting as needed
- Managing, training, developing, and mentoring a small team of Staff & Senior Accountants
- Creating and implementing process improvements, internal controls, and enhancing the related documentation and accountabilities of team members
- Planning and coordinating the annual audit while working effectively with external auditors
- Special projects such as system implementations, process improvements, team-building activities, and partnering with the CFO on other corporate initiatives
Qualified candidates should possess at least seven (7) years of relevant accounting or audit experience, along with a Bachelor’s degree or higher. CPA license is highly desirable. Prior background in the commercial Real Estate industry is needed, and previous exposure to items such as Investment accounting, Property accounting, and Development accounting is desirable. Prior experience utilizing an industry-specific ERP system such as Yardi, MRI, etc. is a plus. Candidates should have strong managerial skills, along with the ability to serve as a hands-on leader and strategic business partner throughout the company.
Compensation will include competitive base salary, annual bonus target, along with a comprehensive benefits package. The company has a hybrid / partially-remote work arrangement, with an office located in central Austin. Relocation assistance may be provided to the chosen candidate, if needed.
