Established, privately held Renewable Energy firm is seeking a Chief Financial Officer for a key executive role. The CFO will be responsible for leading a diverse team of professionals, including 4 direct reports and 15 overall staff within the following functions: Finance, Accounting, Treasury, Governance, Contracts, and Regulatory Affairs. This position will report to the CEO, while working closely with the Board of Directors and Private Equity firm, and will serve as an integral company leader while managing the financial well-being, growth, and success of the organization.
Chief Financial Officer job duties will include the following:
• Managing and providing strategic direction over daily operations of the FP&A, accounting, and treasury functions, along with Contracts, Regulatory Affairs, and Governance
• In conjunction with the head of FP&A, leading the preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts, while providing strategic advice and direction on optimizing value to senior management and shareholders
• Working closely with the Controller to oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP
• Ensuring compliance with all company, regulatory, state, federal and GAAP requirements through the development, implementation, and maintenance of controls and policies
• Leading the facilitation of the annual external audit and tax returns, while managing relationships with Audit & Tax firms
• Reporting financial liquidity and position to CEO and Board of Directors, while providing oversite and recommendations
• Developing and managing strategic financing initiatives (restructurings, working capital facilities), including interaction with banks and the analysis and recommendation of various financing options
• Presenting annual updates to rating agencies and providing ad-hoc updates as necessary
• Leading the development of financial models and analyses to support strategic initiatives and capital project additions
• Leading regulatory initiatives including rate setting proceedings, CCNs, etc.
• Managing and supporting the needs of shareholders through the leadership of the Regulatory and Finance board subcommittees
• Managing annual fair value processes, including evaluating and selecting key assumptions, ensuring completeness and accuracy of fair value model, and analyzing drivers of value / investment returns against prior year
• Working with the Controller to periodically review and assess the appropriateness of accounting policies & practices, along with the implementation of technical accounting standards
• Providing coaching, training, and guidance to staff, including value added feedback and career development
• Serving as a leader and decision-maker during the company’s recruiting and hiring initiatives, while working closely with HR, departmental hiring managers, and recruiting/staffing firms.
To be considered, candidates should possess the following qualifications:
• A minimum of 15 years of total experience, including at least 10 years of managerial experience
• Previous experience in a Chief Financial Officer or VP of Finance role, with direct oversight for multiple financial functions (Accounting, Finance, Treasury, etc.)
• Background within one or more of the following sectors is needed: Utilities, Power Generation, Renewable Energy, Electricity, Wind/Solar, Hydroelectric, or related industry
• Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or CPA strongly preferred
• Strong working knowledge of FP&A items such as forecasting, budgeting, analysis, and financial modeling is required
• Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Prior experience managing an Accounting team is preferred
• Previous experience managing a Contracts team is highly desirable, in addition to other areas such as Compliance, Regulatory Affairs, Credit, Governance, etc.
• Ability to effectively manage and/or interact with 3rd party service providers such as banks, rating agencies, CPA firms, recruiting firms, consultants, and key business partners, along with investors and shareholders
• Ability to manage multiple work streams for various departments, including employees and business partners in different geographic locations, along with the ability to respond quickly to high priority requests
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with proven experience in preparing relevant, high-quality information for investors and external stakeholders, including banks, credit agencies, and regulators
• Excellent leadership abilities, with strong hands-on managerial skills
